Solihull Advanced Motorists

(SAM)

Welcome to SAM!

SAM is a charity (affiliated with IAMRoadSmart) dedicated to improving the standard
of driving in the Solihull & surrounding areas

Established in 1986, our main objective is to improve road safety by raising driving standards. We are a friendly group, keen on promoting the benefits of being a better driver and increasing our driving enjoyment.

We have around 150 Full members who have previously passed their advanced driving test with IAM and wish to continue supporting the work of the group. Many have long been with us and continue to support the group, some actively, for example attending social events where talks of a motoring nature are often the focal point.

We run a programme of meetings and events through the year and details of these can be found on our Events page. We usually meet at the Royal British Legion Club in Knowle, generally on the first Tuesday of the month 7.30pm - 9.30pm. Guests are welcome!

We also have around 15 Associate members, at any time, who are undergoing courses with us (see our Courses page) and these are supported by some of our Full members who have trained to become volunteer Observers wishing to pass on the benefit of their experience to new members.

Some Full members choose to take an additional test, somewhat more challenging than the advanced driving test, and which is as near as civilians can reach to the Police Class 1 driving standard. Those who pass this are entitled to be known as IAMRoadSmart 'Masters'.

Our Photo Gallery page reflects some of the group's activities.

SAM is a registered charity (No 1054280.) affiliated to IAMRoadSmart (previously known as the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM)) which itself is a registered charity (No 249002).
